5 Tips To Rediscover You
My background is perfection, neat, don’t smear jelly on the table or cry when your best buddy says they hate you, or blow grape juice bubbles out of your nose at dinner. It became an unacknowledged dictate for life. But life is messy, people imperfect, nature unpredictable.
It is amazing how much of our lives we spend just trying to simplify our complex pretend pictures back to the little kid who loved to write lyrics, play on a rusty swing-set, and rescue injured frogs from the bully next door.
I was at a home improvement retail store the other day. A handsome young man walked joyfully down the main isle with his soft cream-colored several month-old lab puppy. The epitome of adorableness. Then the puppy squatted and did his business right there in between rows of check-out registers lined with impatient patrons and the paint section. Life is that. We might even be the puppy. Some days there will be poop. And you will step in it and get your feet nasty and wonder if what your mom said about getting worms is true. Don’t take a picture that day, then try to over-process it to flawlessness with photoshop.
5 tips to rediscover your beautiful messy self.
- Don’t judge or view others critically. It spits right back at ya.
- Remember your inner child. Who were you? What did you love to do?
- Do something you are really bad at, then laugh with yourself.
- Realize we are ALL human, with our weird quirks and insecurities.
- Play!
When creating your art, writing your words, singing your song, composing your music, do you strive to do your best? Of course. But to tinker and manipulate to perfection, in order to please others and conform to standards you aren’t sure you even believe in? Nah.
Write your story, sing your song, share your art, be you!
